Millions of users around the globe were caught off guard on Monday after Amazon Web Services (AWS) — the backbone of much of the modern internet — went down for several hours.

The outage caused widespread disruptions to major platforms and services before Amazon announced that the issue had been fully resolved.

According to official reports, the disruption began in the US-EAST-1 region, a major AWS hub that handles enormous volumes of online data and application traffic.

 

Several core components — including EC2 instances, DynamoDB databases, SQS messaging, and DNS resolution — stopped functioning properly, triggering chain reactions across various websites and mobile applications.
